Sounds like you seized the cylinder. Have you checked the stator side? I had a screw come loose before that holds the stator on and it stopped the engine from moving till I removed it. If everything looks good, pull the clutch basket and gear off so the crank gear isn't touching any other gears. Try turning the magneto and see if the engine will turn, probably won't. Sounds like a rebuild. When you rebuild it, check the lower rod bearing for play. Later

Iwanna400ex,

The best thing u can do for the motor is go buy a Clymer, they say for 85-85, and 87, but your motor is the same as a 87, it gives you all the torque specs, how to unhook the Power Valve and how to adjust it. Go to your dealer and buy one, it will cost about $26 but will be well worth it, it helped me crack the cases and replace my counter shaft.

My dads did that while I was riding it. The wrist pin washer broke, and the pieces fell into the bottom end and got wedged in between the case and the crank, so the kickstarter wouldn't kick or anything. The little metal chunks scored the cylinder and chipped my piston too. Maybe the same happened to you?

My wrist pin washer broke as well and wedged itself between the piston and the gas port. Locked up solid...

Oh yea, Mines an 85...

The guy where I live that fixes quads said the crank blew! Now I need and new piston, bore, rebuilt crank and lots of labor $250 worth of labor! And $250 worth of parts!!But thats what he says without seing it.I think he's rite though because the piston mashed up against the head(You can tell by looking at the top of the piston and combustion chamber). :

Well, sounds like a perfect time to check everything in the motor now. It's not bad what happened, just a little pain to get to everything. I did my whole bottom end and I am glad I did, I was having problems constantly with my pistons and now it is running perfectly. Two main bearings, 2 seals, a rod and lower bearing, piston, rings and a bore job, you'll be good to go for a while. I just wish everything was as easy to work on as a motorcycle or quad. Later
