No throttle response
#1
I just bought an '03 Z400. Today after starting the bike everytime I would touch the throttle the bike would turn off. I let it idol thinking it was fluided, but I dont think that is the case. What is going on? I checked all the fluids and it has gas! I am so new to this sport I have no experience. Any suggestions, please!!!!

Well, I bought a K&N Air Filter and picked up a 155 main Jet and Spark plug. I spent the better part of a Saturday getting to know my new Z400. Let me just say that the air filter works great, jetting went without a hitch and new spark plug put the bike in great running shape. It sounds better than I bought it! I cannot wait till Desert Season! ~Glamis here I come!~

try adjusting the idle air screw. But before you do that make SURE it is thoroughly warmed up. My Z250 does the same exact thing to me until she is warmed up real good. A good rule of thumb for me is let it idle for five minutes and if the exhaust gases coming out of the pipe is fairly warm, then it is warmed up. Check this by putting your hand behind the end of the exhaust. I hope you would know not to touch the pipe right?!?

another good way to check that she is warmed up properly is to put ur finger on the engine. if u cant hold ur finger there for more than a couple of secods then its warmed up properly. it usually takes a few minutes, but i dont think that would cause the problem. are u sure the petcock is turned to on and not prime:?
