Default Rear brake caliper question...kinda confused...

alrite...u might as well go here to see what im talkin about...Fiche of rear brake caliper...

I replaced 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. Well...8, 9, and 10 went in fine...but when i try to get the other boots on (# 12's), i get confused. Are they supposed to just sit on the pin (# 11) or are the boots supposed to fit down in the caliper? Inside the caliper there is a groove for the boot, but when i put it in the groove the pin doesnt have enough room to slide through.

wow...i know this is confusing, but basically can someone tell me how to install the pin and boots ( # 11 and 12's ). Thanks

From what I can tell, the pin goes through the caliper, and the caps- #12 should pop onto the end of the pin(s). These caps appear to cover an O ring or snap ring. In that event, the caps would prevent crud from mucking up the action. Those "pins" are the shafts that support the in/out movement of the caliper. There should be a nut that goes on the end of the shaft/pin after it passes through the caliper, but some just have the shaft. Is so, the cap should pop onto the shaft, itself. Like I said, these are just "protection", but needed. I'm almost positive that's the case. I've done a ton of brk. jobs on my vehicles, as well as others. That Caliper looks a lot like a GM truck caliper, and the GM caliper has caps that pop on the end of the shafts.
Hope this helps.

see ur right...the shafts do screw into the mounting bracket, but when i put the one pin into the caliper, and i go to put the boots on...they dont fit. It seems its too tight of a fit. Im gonna look at it later on and see what i can figure out.

Is there a "lip" on the back side of the caliper? The cap might pop onto the lip(like the top of a longneck) to cover the hole/threads.

there is a lip on one side of the inside of the caliper. but the lip is on the inside which makes the pin go in really tight..actually it doesnt have enough room.

I checked the caliper on my Vinson, and the caps pop into the hole on the piston side of the caliper. Tight fit, but that's where they are.
