Actually, yes, that could work. I've been contemplating that myself. The 87 250 and 500 had the same reed cage bolt pattern which was much larger than the later years for both quads. However, the 88 & up year quads still had the same size, it was just smaller than the 87models. (It's crazy to think that the 87 lt250 had a much larger intake than the 88 & later Zilla's but it's true.) Anyway, the one difference in the intake boot (other than the fact that the carb side is much larger for the Zilla since it's carb is bigger) is that the Zilla's boot has a slight angle in it, which could actually be benefitial in this case because you'd probably want your filter to go to the side where there is more room.
BTW, since yours is a 92, you have the updated rear suspension and a totaly different stock air filter system because you have less room in front of your rear shock that the previous years. Does your intake boot have a curve in it also? 87-90 lt250 boots are straight. I've never seen a 91/92 up close. The previous years had the airbox in front of the rear shock whereas yours is behind it.
BTW, my brother is building a crazy lt250 for mx using a 91 chassis and an 87 engine. He has a bigger problem because he needs the larger reed bolt pattern of the 87 engine, but the later tubing for the 91/92 intake boot and airbox. That part never existed so he'll probably make something by hand. Regardless, he may need a stock airbox and boot assembly for a 91/92. If you decide to get rid of it, let me know.

Yes, a zilla reed cage will fit a 92 lt250 as long as it's from a 88 - 90 zilla. That's what I was trying to say. I guess my post was a little confusing. 87 250's and 500's had the same intake size. In 88, they changed the size of the intake on both the 500 and the 250 to be much smaller than the 87's but still the same as eachother. Every year the 500 was made, it's intake size was the same as the 250. That's why it seems crazy that the 87 250's has a much larger intake area than the 88-90 500's.
BTW, I own an '87 500 and '87 250, as well as two '88 500's, and I just sold and '88 250 so I've seen every intake size on both quads. (Except for the 85/86 250. Those I'm not sure about.)
Sorry for the confusion.

well thanks guys and for putting the 87 motor in the 91 you can buy a boyseen reed valve cut the neck of and weld it on at an angle ive seen it done before and on my quad the air box is behind the shock and the boot is tipped down slightly and theres a very restrictive rubber hose that wraps around the rear shock and thats what imn trying to eliminate with the clamp on filter.
