Default question about 85' lt230s

I don't know how much luck you are going to have. Back in the 80's their were plenty of hop up parts but now, 19 years later, it doesn't seem like a lot of stuff is available. Back then you could get big bore kits (285cc) cams, exhausts, etc, etc. Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on any of that. My brother has an '86 Quadsport that we're fixing up and just by looking at it, it brings me back memories from the day. I used to have an '86 Quadsport and while it was a nice machine and a quantum leap from my '84 LT185, it wasn't and isn't as good as my Mojave or the 250X I used to have. Just get yours running, have fun and save your money. The new Z400 Quadsport is incredible and after riding one you will immediately realize that putting money into hopping up an old 230 just doesn't make any sense. Sorry to sound negative, but seriously, I trying to help you out.

Default question about 85' lt230s

The QS is a great bike, but it's ability to stay together after mods is weak...if you didn'tknow.

Just treat it as anything else.
Get K&N
Get bigger carb
port the head
mill the head .001 for higher compresion
use wiseco piston

You may be able to bore it out, but I would not since it won't be able to handle the heat.
I have not done it, but YOu may be able to put a bigger jug from say a 300cc suzuki on that bottom end. Or just put a new motor in that frame.

Of course the HP increase will destroy the frame and drive system rather quickly - those swingarms CAN NOT hold up to factory stress!! Yo umight lower the QS since they are pretty top heavy.

Default question about 85' lt230s

Powroll recently had big bore kits for the 230 Sport as did LA Sleeve. Poweroll could punch it out to a 290 or 270, I can't remember, and they could increase the compression up to 12.5 to 1 and had some cams for it as well. I was going to at least get a cam but when I called about a year ago, they said that due to slow sales on the 230, I had to buy 4 cams at a time. What a crock! I'd still like to do it but I need to find some others that are willing to go in with me. Plus, I'm not sure if they still make the big bore kits anymore.
