89 Zilla
#1
I bought an 89 zilla a few months back, its stock except for the fmf pipe and the 39mm pwk carb. Everything works well and the thing runs like a raped ape! The problem I have is, the machine starts very hard when the engine is cold. I have checked everything mechanical thoroughly, cleaned the carb with contact cleaner and reset the float height. I suspect this problem may have to do with the pilot jet being too rich. The pilot is a #55 with the main being a #145.
Do any of you fellow desert riders out there have any recommendations for proper setup of the pwk for this particular application? Is there something that I may have overlooked?
Thanks, G.R., Nevada

They take time. Every machine has a little trick to it. Just make sure your on top of the compression stroke and let her have it. Mines the same way however i do run 118 octan. Just spray alittle shot of 93 in the carb and you should be good to go. Make sure its not in gear when you start it. Should pop right off unless you have other prolbems.

Mine was the same way, infact the day I went to look at it before buying it I saw the owner in the garage and out of breath and sweating,I thought to myself this is a winner.I noticed how he was kicking it over and I asked him to let me try,so I moved the kicker all the way down, let it come back to the top, used my foot to get it at the compression stroke and gave it the boot, and it started right up.The guy looked at me all dumbfounded and he told me that he was kicking it for 1/2 hr,took it for a spin and bought it.

lol. I remember when my brother thought he could start mine. LOL i just stood there and watched as sweat also driped off his head. I got on it and kicked it once and she was tinging. So when you said that it reminded me of my brother.
