i think the quad runner and quad sport are the same bikes. so to tighten the chain you have to take out three bolts on the axle carrier. to long ones and one tiny one. and to get the sprocket off have some body hold down the back brake.

It depends on what year it is. They had 2 different swingarm/carriers. To get the sprocket of put it in first and hold the rear brakes. If you are changing the front sprocket, the chain and rear sprocket should be changed also if they show ANY wear.. A chain/sprockets is a set and wear in together. A new one will likely get chewed up.

An impact will make getting off the nut on the gear easier, if you have one available.

Hey I Own A suzuki 1986 lt230 quad runner And i had problems with my chain what you do to tighten the chain is you have to loosen to bolts i believe it's a 14 millimeter. One of the bolts you have to loosen is were the brake disc rudder for the back brakes you put your wrence through the disk in one of the holes and there should be a bolt write were you putting the wrench . it is on the top of the shaft. It looks like a little pipe of some sort. Then the second bolt is were the back sprocket it is on the bottom of the shaft were the axle is in place there will be a groove were you can see were the bolt slides thenonce you have them bolth loosened then you pick up the 4 wheeler so the back end is off the air. Put a log or something onn the black wheelie bar to hold it up in the air. then tighten those 2 bolts up tightly and there you go. Now to change the front sprocket you need channel locks to hold the sprocket .

You can take a link out of the chain, but that isn't the proper way to adjust it. If the adjustment is all of the way tight, then the chain is likely stretched beyond its usefulness. Running with a strechted chain with eventually cause it to fly off, likely breaking the engine cases. What year is the atv?

The chain should have 1.5 inches of slack in it. If you have the 2 adjuster bolt type axle carrier, you need to make sure they are adjusted the same. Otherwise the chain will not run true, and will cause a derailment, which can break the case.

Chain slack the width of your pinky? No, I don't think so. Well maybe if you want to ruin your swingarm bearings, oval the mounting holes and snap a chain. Otherwise the recomended slack is 1.8-2.0 inches. NO LESS than 1.5 inches.
