Default 04' LTZ250 vs. 05' Blaster (upgrades?)

i have the 250 with dg pipe and a buddy of mine i ride with has a blaster....the blaster beats me in a drag race. Its pretty close. the blaster doesnt handle as good on the mountain trails. i think the z is more balanced on the trails...but will lose in a drag race.

Default 04' LTZ250 vs. 05' Blaster (upgrades?)

Thanks for the reply's fellas, back when I was 15 (in '95) I had a '91 Blaster and that's why I recommended my girlfriend get one, and just yesterday my other buddy bought one it is an 89 with a pipe on it and it's pretty quick for being as old as it is. I do like my z250 a whole lot, I didn't want to send the wrong impression but I would like to do a few things to it to pep it up a little ( I know it doesn't hope to beat a Blaster ) First thing I want to do is soften up the shocks a little bit as I am only 135lbs and the bike feels like it's set up for a bigger person (sometimes I feel like I'm bouncing when I should be sticking). I love the shaft drive because I don't feel like I have to worry about it at all. I do want to get the Yoshimura slip on exhaust but it's gonna run me $420.00. I was also instructed to get spacers instead of the axle and a-arms, apparently they achieve the same effect for less money. I'll look into an air filter as well. any tips on which one is best?

Have you adjusted the preload ont he shocks? I assume they are the spanner-wrench style clickers. $420 for just a slip on? That's a lot off $$ for the power it will probably add. I'd look for opinions on other pipes. Spacers will widen it up cheaply, and are probaly stronger than the bike itself, so I doubt you'd break anything with them. Both Uni and K&N are better than stock, I've had good luck with K&N but have no experiance with the UNi.

K&N, check - Search for other pipe options, check - Spacers, check... now I just need my wedding to be over with so I have money to spend on the bike lol.

you can easily make a z-250 beat a blaster. the only reason the blaster has been wining is becasue it is a 2-stroke,clutch, and has six gears! I raced my freinds lakota 300 sport and barley tied wit him stoc. now that i got a pipe and air filter i have no problem....put a filter, yoshimura, and jet kit in and ull blow it away!

But pipe the Blaster and you will lose even more than stock for stock. Probably the same with the Lakota.

I'm sorry guys, but I really think that even a worked Z won't touch the blaster....But I do be the 20inch tires take away from some potential speed.....
Don't get me wrong, those Z's are one of the funnest quads to hop on and put around.....but with the money that it would take to make the Z as fast as a stock blaster.......you'd be better off buyin a used blaster...lol

But yea, check out the pipes....DMC is a good brand from what I hear......if you do mods, and feel you have way to much low end, or just acceleration, swich to 22inch rear tires, this is an easy way to gain some speed, and you shouldnt lose to much acceleration, after all the Z is a shaft drive.

I myself am thinking about getting a DG RCM pipe.....I guess it makes the most horsepower out of stock engines....and its got a great sound!...It's a great price, lighter then stock, and won't affect the clutch to much.....soo I'll let ya kno how that works.

i read in i think it was eaither dirt wheels or atv rider that the top speed of a blaster stockwas 56mph and the top speed of a z250 stock was 55mph.....there not that differnt once ur both in ur top gear pined......the blaster gets there faster because it has 6 gears so th RPMs are always higher!
