Mucky, your quad looks and sounds like it's awesome. My friend also can't stop spending money on his. Now that he's replaced all the stock parts with aftermarket ones he's going back over it again and replacing aftermarket parts with different aftermarket parts. CRAZY!

Yes its good, that is if you are a casual rider; and not on it, beatin on it everyday! The prob with the big bore kits, is that anytime u go to a High Comp Piston like that especially goin from a 400 to a 450 or 453 then ur reliability goes out the window....you will be rebuilding every 10 or so hours at least reringing it.....especially for those of you that race!

That kit will most likely not be legal if u race in a 450size only class! I have seen rules get fairly strict on things like this!

Default Some z400 questions

The Z400 is fairly responsive to mods, especially motor work, as any machine does, but bolt-ons do the trick!

They will outhandle a raptor stock for stock and even modified due to the lower center of gravity on the motor, and better radiator location as it sits lower in the chassis!

The 05's actually hang right beside a raptor 300ft and on until the raptor hits 5th gear due to its top end! YES THEY ARE GEARED HIGH!

The 05 is actually considerably quicker, not way faster but quicker then the 03 and a lil then the 04.....the better exhaust on the 04 helped but it was miniscule! The 05's Larger 37mm carburetor with throttle position sensor - ignition timing is determined by throttle opening for improved engine response, especially at high rpm, it has Revised cam profiles for improved overall power output which also helps considerably!

They have better shocks, more plush, and they come with resavores for less fade!

Increased number of clutch drive plates (8 to 9) for improved clutch operation and feel
New magnesium valve cover, clutch cover and ignition cover for improved engine appearance and reduced weight
Piggyback reservoir-style front shock absorbers featuring adjustable preload, compression & rebound damping for improved overall suspension performance LESS FADE!!!

New aluminum front bumper and aluminum rear grab bar for improved appearance and reduced weight
Aluminum gear shift lever for lighter gearshift feel and reduced weight

They made the 05 Pretty Sick!

I will be redoing the 05 as soon as i get it, it gets stripped and prepped for GNCC! So most of these mods do not help me anyway!
But for those looking to get the new 05, its really nice!

Hope this helps,

Well, I dont know about the 10 hour rebuild on the big bore kits, the 400ex with big bore kits certainly can throw on the hours without touching it, so i dont think the z400 is going to need it either. I'd rather buy a used one and throw a little bit of money into it rather than spending an extra grand or so and then building on top of that. The 05 sounds appealing, but probably not enough to spend another 1200 on it just yet.
