I have a guestion about my suzuki z 400. On the left side of the head there is a small whole and I am wondering what it is there for. The reason I ask is because there is black stuff coming out of it, what does this mean? Is it normal? Please help!

 

Can't be normal. It shouldn't be leaking anything. Sounds like it could be oil. I would have a shop check it out. Check if it is leaking from where the valve cover is. Maybe it's just a blown gasket. How is it running?

 

Mine does it too.It only does it when I fire it up after a good wash.It's pretty much just a little water and grime that gets in there from the wash and when the motor is running it vibrates it out......

 

my guess is that you went through some nasty black mud and like the other guy said,after you wash it it leaks out,i dont think the hole goes through the head

 

Mine does the same thing too. When I wash it after a good mud ride, mud and water come out of it. I've often wondered what that's there for...

 

hey you guys are great! thanks for the input, I was just wondering if it was like a water pump with the little whole in the bottom which tells you your seals are bad. any way thanks!

 

its a vent for the spark plug so when you take the plug out its clean in there, and the crap doesnt drop into the cyl.
