Default How does the z400 react to cams?

I am looking at buying a cam os a set of cams for my Z. How well does the motor react to them? Does it make a noticeable difference? Why add only why add onlly the intake over adding both intake and exhaust? I ride around vegas and at dumont dunes. What to do?

cams make a big difference. the reason some people only add the intake cam is because you'll have more low end with this setup compared to both. With both however you will notice more top end which it sounds like you need for the dunes. hotcams work good and arent too expensive they would be a good way to go i would reccomend getting both.

I have both intake and exhaust hotcams. They claim 1% loss on the low end and 14% gain over all.(HP) I did notice the loss on the low end, but i did feel the gain in mid to top. I thought mine was way to torque ne ways on the low end. I can manage to use all the gears now more effenciantly and notice the more pull when drag racing. Also i have the cdi +1000 so the extra rpms help to with the cams.

cams aren't only good for top speed they help a lot on midrange power as well.

As seen on MagicRacing's website here, Hotcams recommends only the intake cam for trail riding. The outake cam should only be used for mx or dune riding due to loss of low end. I'll only be buying the intake cam when the time comes.

the loss of low end is not as noticeable as most people make it out to be if you were to put in both hotcams and the drz base gasket which raises the compression you're low end would proabably be about the same and the mid and top would be significantly improved over just an intake cam. just something to think about

Bottom end loss is not that noticeable with both cams
