Default please help with camshaft installation 03 vinson

I purchased a web-cam for my vinson and I think im going to have it ported and polished today but who knows. Anyways I am having difficulty putting the camshaft back in...I had it installed and started it up for the 20 minute break-in process but right away something didnt seem right based on my friends camshaft that went perfect just two days before hand. I neglected to mark anything...however I made sure it was at TDC on the compression stroke and tried to line up these small markings of the cam with the edges of the motor head. Any links or ideas or experiences would be great.

If you lined the two lines on the gear with the top of the head, have it TDC, put tension back on your chain with the cam tensioner, and have the valves adjusted right, I don't know what else could be wrong.

I actually did that...i lined up the two marks (lines) of the camshaft with the top of the head and reconnected the cam chain. I dont know what you mean by cam tensioner or whatever. I had the motor at TDC, I adjusted the valves to the specs and it just doesnt seem right. I'm gonna pull it apart in a few minutes to make sure everything is ok.

On the right side of the engine behind the jug there is a cam tensioner. It is spring loaded. You take it out and turn it with a screwdriver to release the tension and put it in and turn it back to put the tension back on the timing chain. It is very hard to get a screwdriver on. You need a stubby to do it. I don't see how you took the chain off and put it back on without releasing the tension on the chain. It took me a while to figure out how it works, but I did it.

what i did was i unbolted the camshaft from it by first taking out one weird bolt from the camshaft to the gear...then i rotated the motor by a 14mm wrench on the pull start bolt and turned the camshaft to get at the other bolt...then the camshaft slid out and the gear stayed on with the chain on it...if I push the gear down slightly because after all it does move freely I can easily get the chain on and off.

I gave up on the camshaft...i figured i already have the motor pulled apart I brought it down to this engine shop a few towns over and hes porting and polishing the heads...changing the valves...and doing a flow test on it to show me the difference. Then I hope to be installing the new cam along with the tricked out head tomorrow

im fired up
