i think that the new 400ex will be even worse then the old one against the z400 in a race now. Yes, now the 400ex has reverse and a look like the 450r but it also gianed 15 pounds. So now i think that teh z will be even better against it because the new 05 Z it lighter then the 04 better exhaust n better carb. So even tho honda thought they wer making it better they made it worse. I would liek to hear other peoples opinons.

since i hate honda i fully agree i mean they thought they ruled the market with that 400 a mojave with few mods can take one i mean that's worthless for a 400 to get taken like that then when the z came out they kept it the same price cause they stilll thought it was good needless to say that z took about all of there sport bussiness for a while till the 450 i feel better now i have to go to school with a bunch of people that think a 400ex will kill a banshee and that a recon 250 can take my eiger lol i could probably keep up with honda's over priced 650 or out do it hahahahha thanks for the post i needed to vent

hahahah some kids at my school hav no clue wat they are saying at all but my town is a huge quad town so there are plenty of people who know what they are saying but some just say stuff to try to be cool. i mean in my town there are kids who shud be on little 90's ridong yfz's

i think it will be even closer now...because now htey both have larger carbs, both look good, suspension is awesome on both, reverse on both, and the extra 13 lbs on the EX make them close to being even because of the liquid coolin on the Z. I would rather have a Z, but i think im gonna end up with an EX cause you can find them highly modded for less than a stock Z.

Both bikes have their place in the scheme of things. The EX is the bargain, entry level machine. (You can get an 04 for $4,099!) Honda has shot itself in the foot by pricing the 05 the same as the Z, but just watch, dealers will have to discount it $500 (back to the 04 MSRP), or they won't sell a single one! And, Suzuki has upped the ante by updating the Z for 05.
The EX is the primo tight trail machine. The engine doesn't mind being lugged down. It has power on the bottom end, where the Z is weak. The Z on the other hand, likes to be revved, and does its best work at higher rpm on more open trails and in wide open country. The Z fills a nice niche in there right between the EX and the 450's.

i have a z-400 with a big gun race series pipe, atv power pack(jets filter, outerwear cover) dg skid plates all around and a dg front bumperi also have hole shots. i am 14 and pay for it my self by mowing laws and doing odd jobs. it has good power, climbs sand hills well, and pretty much wastes a stock 400ex. it is a great quad all around.
