?My understanding is that the engine mounting changed in '87, but what about the other stuff like A-Arms and tie rods

I don't think that the front ends changed much, except for an updated thicker hub at some point in the 80's. I'm pretty sure the geometry is the same.

I have a couple quadsports and a few 230 E's. The reason the CDI's are different is because the CDI mounts near the front of the frame on the E and has much longer wires because of this. The CDI on the Sport mounts under the tank. The crossbar welded across the two front frame tubes that the CDI mounts to on the E will not be on the Sport frame. This is one major difference in the frames. I'm more familiar with the 85-86 sports and I know they have very different engine mounts than the E. I'm not sure about the later 87-88 sports but I'd think there's a good chance it's still a little different given all the minor differences I've found between mine. I actually have an 87 sport for parts but unfortunately it's at my parents house a couple of hours away or I could tell you with certainty. Another thing to think about is the footpegs. I know the footpegs are very different and not interchangeable. The E pegs do not fold up and go out much wider to accomidate the much wider engine of that the E has. If I remeber correctly, I don't think the footpeg bolt pattern to the frame is the same either. I know of several other very minor differences but they shouldn't affect what you're trying to do so I'll leave them off to prevent this post from turning into a novel. Hope this helps.

Thank's for the CDI info, I got one for a Sport on E Bay for $10 . The existing one is smashed, but still works. Actually it works to well, now it can't be stopped electrically. It has to have the gas shut off. I assume that something is grounded to turn the ignition off, and the a wire is broken somewhere. Remember the front end was run over by a truck.
