first of all i have a 93 mojave thats just as fast as a 400 ex. i want to sell it and get this lt 250 r that is in really nice shape. its about 4 hours away from were i live and is only 3900 canadian. my dad is kinda always skeptical at first. he didnt want me to put all these parts on my mojave and now he is impresed with it. i showed him the lt and he kinda looked at it but doesnt under stand how fast these things are. thinks it old and thinks that its not much faster than my mojave. how can i convince him of letting me sell this one to get the lt. i have the money thats not the issue. and anyinfo on the 85 lt would be apreciated. powervalve right?

85's are the worst year lts heres the problems/not as good things as later years.
5spd instead of 6
no powervalve
frames cracked
and few odds and ends but thats it
87+ is the desireable year, and 92 is really the best being the last year made.

Don't give up on the 85 yet. He's right, they were only 5 speeds and are non-powervalved, but they're still great machines and much faster than the mojave. One thing neat about them is that they only weighed 293 pounds. That's exactly the same as a Honda 250R three wheeler! They weren't built quite as tough as the later years but if it's in great shape, I'd consider it. I have an 87. It's ported a lot and runs very fast. However, this past summer at Little Sahara, a guy had an absolute gorgeous 85 that was built to the max. His would smoke mine. With bikes that old, it really just depends on the condition.

Look it over real good, any quad 20 years old has tobe tough and/or taken good care of. The 85 has a tough little engine, they will stand up to quite a bit of abuse. All things being equal, I would take an 87+, but would not turn down an 85/86 just because of the year.
