well everyone says the 87's head leaks. befcuase the 87 head only had 6 studs then they chnaged this in 88 to the 7 studs to seal it better. although my 87 hasnt any problems yet, just keep the studs tight on the head and youll be fine

The 87's were a little different in a few ways than the later models. They did make the most power due to the reedcage being sooooooo big. One of the biggest complaints was the head gaskets leaking. The cylinder and head only had 6 studs compared to 7 on the newer years. You can lap the head on a piece of glass with some sandpaper or have it milled a bit if it gives problems, but if all is fine then dont worry about it. Remember that these bikes make huge torque, so dont try to rev them to the moon like you would a smaller CC motor. Keep all bolts in check every once in awhile also as they tend to vibrate loose. Have fun with it most of all. They are cool to ride.
