does the 05 Z-400 have good low-end-midrange torque/power?

the only place a 400ex will beat a z400 is low end. after that the z will be revving and passing the ex.
the ex is still a great machine. it is just slower. better on tight trails though.

That engine is more of a revver, rather than a torquer. In stock form, mid-range is OK but low end is lame. After I put on a pipe and muffler, and opened up the airbox, it got way better.

I mostly trail ride my DVX and it did allright when it was stock. Now that i've got the exhaust and removed the air box lid the low end torque is way better and it's much easier to ride trails with. Before i got the exhaust i was thinking of going to a 13 tooth front sprocket but now it pulls good enough on the low end to pull the stock gearing. But then again mine is an 04 and the 05s might be stronger.
