Default Vinson / Eiger Gas Mileage

I have an 05 Vinson (auto) with about 250 miles on it. Last fall I checked the mileage after it was broke in and was surprised to see that I got 25 MPG. The day was spent riding trails, not much mud. And a WOT run of about a mile (off and on). The temp that day was around 65. When I used our 400 man A/C deer hunting last fall it was fairly cold 10-20 degrees and the 400 Cat was only getting about 15 MPG. Normally (for my kind of riding) the Cat will get around 23 MPG during the warmer summer months.. If you like to do a lot of mudding or steep hill climbing then your mileage will show it.

Dranem,

I can go about 100 to 120 miles on a tank of gas with my Vinny. Thats mainly riding in two wheel drive. This time a year it's signifacently lower due to the deep snow here in Alaska and having to ride in 4x4 all the time. I ride with lots of guys and my Vinny seems to beat them all in this area. Maybe it's because of the large tank but in any case it's nice not having to strap a gas can to your rig all the time.

On a side note Vinson581 has always told the truth to my knowledge.

Thanks guys....

Just dont want to spend a fortune on gas each time I go out for a ride.

I'm looking at getting a new ATV by springtime.....and I'm down to the Vinson or Kodiak 450.....just wish the Vinson had a locker.

Outrage....

How do you like your 26" mudlites? The dealer here says he'll throw 4 26" mudlites on a new Vinson for an extra $100.
What width would you recommend...I hear wider gives better flotation....but it also pushes into corners....or is that just the front tires being too wide.

Does it still ride nice and handle well. Those are huge lugs on the 26" tires. Can you still slide the back end out. Do they make a big difference in the mud? I don't go looking for mud, but I have to go through some pretty bad stuff often, especially in the spring.

All in all are you still happy with the Vinson?

Thanks

Dranem,

Back when I was trying to figure out which quad I wanted I too narrowed it down to the Vinson & Kodiak 450. To make a long story short I went with the more sporty Vinson.

If the dealer is throwing the Mud Lites in for $100 I'd say go for it. You will not be able to slide the back end around as easy but the traction you get with these are awesome in mud and even better in snow. I can go more places than the larger 700cc machines with stock tires. These tires ride pretty smooth too for a mud/snow tire. My favorite thing about these tires is that I no longer get flats! I couldn't even tell you how many times I've had to plug the stock ones. Like I said you will loose some sportiness but the gains are well worth it IMO.

I would go with a 26" tire with 10s in the front and 12s in the back.

If anything I love my machine more now then when I first bought it. It can hang with the larger quads with no problem at all. It's been through everything Alaska can through at it and it's never let me down. I've even flipped and rolled it a few time with no damage at all other than bent handle bars and some scratches; just roll it back on it's wheels and fire it back up.

an eiger will not outrun a kodiak 450. I am pretty sure it would give the 400 a run, though. The k450 will run about 60, at least the one my wifes uncle owns. It gets there pretty quick, too. Never have checked my mileage, though.

Muddy Mess,

I really like the Eiger so far. I did break the right CV joint but that was due to a ripped CV boot (I am getting CV Guards now!). It is a good ATV for both work and play. The riding position is very comfortable, almost natural (you'll see what I mean when you sit on and drive this thing!). It is quite fast for a 400cc (top 95km/h I weigh only 145lbs though) and the mud protection is very good also. When I ride with my buddies I am always the cleanest when we get back. The only other thing that I can say I that I have been having problems starting one of the Eiger's (I own two of them) in extreme cold. Here's a link to the solution that was posted by another member of atvconnection.com P.S. My other Eiger is fine in the cold weather!

I don't think that any other ATv can beat this one in overall value and price!

If you purchase one of these I know that you will be happy with it.
