Default HP Airfilter, How to know if rejet is needed?

Hey all,

After examining the stock airfilter closer and noticing there is nothing stopping dirt from going between the filter and the air box, i purchased a billet flange and UNI filter to replace the stock with.

For x-mas i know the wife bought me a Yoshimura Pipe, so i wanted to wait untill then to take the bike in to get rejetted..

If i run the Billet flange w/UNI filter, will it hurt the engine? How would you know if it needed to be rejetted?

Also isn't there an A/F adjustment screw you can adjust the mixture for small changes like the Higher flow Filter with out having to rejet?

Thanks,

-ThaChad

Whose adapter did you get? Pro-Flow??? The UNI will flow better than stock, but not so much that you will need a rejet just for that. I would wait for the pipe before doing the rejet.

The absolute best mod you can make on that engine is to open up the airbox (but that may not be possible if you run in water and mud)! I suggest the http://www.ehsracing.com/ lid with Outerwears. This will require a rejet as well, so do it the same time as the pipe.

Messing with the A/F screw, is only going to help you off idle. Not going to do anything, anywhere else in the rpm range.

Actually,

I have never had a problem with K&N, but after riding at the local ride area for 1 day and comming home to open up the air box and fine a ton of dust, i decided i'd rather be safe then sorry..

But i wasn't real key on spending $100+ on a foam filter & adapter.

I found a place called Noss Machine that sells the Billet adapter, and a 2-state UNI Foam clamp on filter for only $65!

It was a great deal.

Here's the link to Noss Machine

Check out my Sig. I do have the EHS outerwares Lid for my airbox, i don't have it installed yet, because i am waiting for the pipe to rejet.

I have a similar question regarding the Z-400. I have a 2005 Z-400 with a little bigger carb then the earlier ones. It's 37 mm. I'm thinking of replacing the stock air cleaner with a K&N. Has anyone re-jetted a 2005 or know where to go for this info?

You can get a good feel if its jetted right by going by the drivability symptoms.
Heres a good article on rejetting, and it list symptoms of lean and rich.
