Default How to break in a new engine

I purchased a 2004 Z400 yesterday. Looking for advise on how to break-in the engine. I am not technical and need all the help I can get. When reading the owners manual, it lacked detail. I'm female and won't be doing the mechanical stuff myself so need assistance in learning the specifics. Thanks!

Happy Trails,
Wannabike

the first or second ride out take your time...and let it cool down after about a half hour of riding..when the motor is cold to the touch you can rip on it all you want

No, make sure the bike is well warmed up, before driving it hard.

I change my oil and filter after 1-2 hrs. to get rid of all the metal shavings, then again at 10 hrs.

make sure you vary your RPMs, that means dont hold the rpms at one spot for very long. dont bounce off the rev limiter but dont just putt putt it around either. you hear a lot of people say you have to take it easy on a new motor to break it in, thats not true, you need to run a new engine hard to break it in and get the valve seats and piston rings seated properly. so... to make it simple... break it in the way your going to ride it.
