Clutch Help Needed!
#1
Need a bit of help. Recently replaced the shift shaft assembly on a 99
Quadrunner 500. This required removing both manual and centrifugal
clutches. Within a day of putting the quad back in use, the clutch
began slipping. I checked the adjustment (two locknuts behind a plate
on the right crankcase cover), which helped reduce the slippage, but
it's still there. The ATV pulled strongly in all gears with no
slippage prior to the shaft replacement, so I'm wondering if I could
have missed something during the reassembly that would cause the
slippage (I.E. clutch release plate not tight enough, etc), or if this
is just a lousy coincidence. If the clutch is bad, what usually
fails, the manual or the centrifugal clutch? Do most folks just replace
both when there is a problem with either? They are not inexpensive
to replace. Thanks for any help/information you can provide.
