Default cracked clutch cover need advice bad

I have a LT250R (87) that when I bought it it had a cracked clutch cover that was tig welded. The repair did not look recent so I did not worry to much about it. Yesterday it broke below the kickstart shaft. Is this a common problem ? Is there something I need to examine? I dont have a problem spending 134.00 dollars for a new one I just hope theres not something more wrong than fatigue of a 20 year old part any info would be great.

I've never seen an LT that did that because of faulty parts. I've seen it happen because of stupidity. However, I think that because the piece was welded, that probably weakened(sp?) the cover, which would explain why it cracked again.
