LT Restoration Update...
#1
well just to inform you, i made my first order last night...220 bucks and took the shock in to get rebuilt...I found out i got completely ripped off...My order consisted of: Rear brake rotor, Rear shock/linkage bearings, and 2 bolts that cost 5 bucks...thats it and my bill was 220 bucks...i was gonna get Renthals quadracer bend bars but they wanted 90 bucks for them, i came home and looked in Rocky mountain and found them for 60...so i just decided to see what my parts would cost from rocky mountain... heres what i got...brake rotor, rear shock/linkage bearings, replacement nerf nets, renthal bars, and some cool some cool fuel lines...all for right at 220 bucks shipped...If that isnt enough to **** me off enough, to make it worse the local dealer even gave me a 15% discount, yet i still save almost 100 bucks ordering from rocky...if my local dealer cant cancel my order im gonna be MAAADD...
Sorry i had to vent somewhere...but anyways my rebuild is going to be fairly nice hopefully...heres a final list of everything im doing...
- EVERY piece that can be powdercoated is going to get done in either a trans blue or a nice metallic silver
- Rebuilt rear shock
- 400ex front shocks
- 450 piece bolt kit off ebay
- Rear shock/linkage bearings, brake rotor, nerf nets, bars, grips, fuel lines, and wire loom covering harness and brake lines
- MAYBE LIST: new clutch perch and brake lever and Razr tires
Doesnt look like much but it should be a good restoration, and for being on a tight 15 year olds budget, i think its the best stuff to get for the money...Incase you were wondering i already have 1000$ into it before the resoration for other bearings, water pump, carb, and other routine stuff...
origional quad price - 1500$
past parts prices - right at 1000$
restoration costs - 700 - 900$
hoping to be able to sell later on for CLOSE to 3000...if not more. The orange one on ebay now has a "buy it now" for 3200...if it sells for 3200 then mine should be able to go for more than that because mine will ( i think ) be nicer than that. Well i guess i just thought i would update you and see what your opinions are for my parts choices...

LT2Fiddy, I feel your pain. I went thru the same crap myself.. Everyone says you should buy from your local business in order to keep them in the area. I disagree , why would i want to spend more money on something that i can get for 15%-25% cheaper online or mail order. In my opinion....if they cant beat or at least match the price. F!@# Um!! They just lost my business. Ronnie's is awesome... I order something from them and 2 days later its on my front steps. I go to my local dealer and its always 2 weeks. They get all their stuff from that overpriced Parts unlimited And it takes forever. Ronnie's has their act together.. Thats for sure.
LT2Fiddy, when you get to the a-arm bearings on your rebuild, consider bushings instead. Here is a link to a guy i found out of Mass. He sells bushings for all types of applications. Good luck Richards Bushings

ZIG...im with you about local business' matching prices...i just couldnt believe the renthal bars they wanted to sell me for 90 bucks...oh and like i said, i already have all the bearings/bushings replaced except the back shock...richards bushings is actually the place i got my stuff from too, very good stuff...i got the swingarm bushings, a arm busings, steering stem bushing, and the free front shock bushings all for a flat price of 100 bucks shipped to me...i was amazed...
86LT...the engine is staying completely together...she ran perfect and never had a problem shifting so its stayin together for now...compression was right at 150psi so when it needs a rebuild i might do the engine restoration, but definitely not now...

I found the same thing I an in the process of buying a clutch cover and the suzuki shop in Evansville IN wanted $50 more than the dealer in Vincinnes IN (i live inbetween so 25 miles each way) this is a part that costs less than $200. A fifty dollar difference is not acceptable I will not shop there any more!

I live in Princeton and yes I was talking about Big 4. I ended up getting my stuff from Vincinnes Motorsports they are a lot cheaper and carry everything but green machines. I ride a Spurgon and East My. Carmel. Spurgon is an old strip pit and is great to ride. It has two sections a state owned section and a private owned section but I avoid both during deer season. The East Mt. Carmel is just west of Princeton on the river and has some great trails. I go to school at USI so I am in Evansville all the time I would love to come by and see the progress you have made on your quad.

hey zigzilla & lt2fiddy,
I just powdercoated my frame and want to replace all bearings and seals on my quad. I saw the rich bushings web page you posted and am very interested. Tell me do they eliminate the seals and little caps with washer as well?same on swingarm?also how do you get the old bushing out? any help much apreciated.

also what about Sand? Someone just told me that they were great bushings instead of the bearings and seals but was warned about the sand. Do tell me is there an effect from Sand? I ride mostly sand on the quad!
