This KQ low end/throttle thing
#1
Since I'm seriously considering a KQ sometime soon, I've been following most of the posts. My only KQ seat time has been on the dealers lot and here's what I found: To me, there is some kind of throttle lag (at least on the one that I tried). When I hit the throttle, there was a brief pause when nothing happened, then it would start moving. This wasn't a very long period of time - probably about 1/2 a second, but it was noticable. I always got this lag no matter how hard or soft I worked the throttle.
Dealer said that this would go away after break-in.
Question: Is this the low-end lag that everyone talks about? Does it really go away in time? Or, did I just ride a KQ that has an individual problem.

Well mine still has it. I even tried holding on to the brake then reving it as much as I can with out moving. Then let go of the brake and nailing the gas at the same time, and still was a hesitation. This is one of the things that I don't like about the KQ. I want instant throttle response like I had with my V-Force.

Mine has the low end hesitation also, and, like GE, I HATE IT. I've been ranting on here about it since I bought it. Other than the lack of low end, it's probably the best overall quad I've ever owned. However, I miss my BF. If Kawasaki comes out with a BF that's fuel injected the KQ is gone.

Mine has no hesitation whatsoever. When you nail the throttle you get instant go and plenty of it.
Now I have never ridden a Brute Force so I have no idea how much low end it has. If Cam650 says it has more I have no reason to doubt it.
Now there are others on here who I have seen that say that their KQ's have no hesitation either so I wonder if it is a problem with some of them.
I have a buddy that just bought a KQ also and I will go ride with him and check his out.
It could be something as simple as an air sensor or something along those lines that just needs to be diagnosed by someone.
I hope it is a simple problem and that it is easily fixed.

Ah Big Dozer, I get fired up because I got rid of a quad that had gobs and gobs of low end and my KQ hesitates on the low end. I miss the rush. I'm not trying to challenge anyone or step on toes. I meant no ill will to you or anyone, I promise. I love EVERY other aspect of the KQ but it's acceralation. In my opinion, and I stress OPINION, it is lacking. I REALLY miss my BF. But I will concede that the KQ is absolutely one of the finest utilities ever made.

..don't you just hate those New Model bugs...I've been thinking the last couple of weeks about picking up a king quad right today, but I have second thoughts about it, because of the new model bugs still being worked out.. I would love an atv with fuel injection, and IRS, that is my best reason for getting a new one...but may wait until next year, when the bugs are worked out..Hay Kawasaki where are you with a little brute 500cc, IRS ????

I honestly hope it is just a mis-tune or a bad sensor and that the fix is quick in coming for you and everyone else that has it.
Even if the hesitation wasn't there it is quite possible that the BF would still have more low end. It is tough to build something that is the best in every category.
I hope to get some seat time in today &/or tomorrow.

No hesitation here but not the punch of the Brute either,
I have a question for the guys that are expiriencing a lag, Is the lag like the older polaris models and the old Grizzly 600? Another words you would push the gas, split second later the motor revs then another split second the tranny engages? If you push the throttle there is time between when the tires start spinning?
For me as soon as I touch the throttle the wheels are moving (spinning). Not with the "force" of the vtwins, but there is no drive train lag.

What I found was: Push the throttle, for a fraction of a second nothing would happen - no engine rev, nothing. It was almost like I hadn't given it any gas at all. Then the engine would rev. and within a beat or two would really kick in. Once that second hit started, it had all kinds of power. All this would happen within just a couple of seconds, even so it was disturbing to not have instant power when pushing the throttle.
Keep in mind this was just a few test runs at the dealership, not any extensive trail use.
