Well, I had a Banshee with a set of pipes on it and rejetted carbs. A friend had a 500 Quad Racer. It wouldn't hang with my Banshee, but it would be a close call (I think)iy my Banshee were stock. The pipes really made mine scream. It's the only quad I've had that needed to have melted rubber cleaned out of the fenders.

His question was stock vs. stock. The answer simply stated is "THE ZILLA". To make the banshe faster your looking at 2 pipes 2 silencers 2 sets of aftermarket reeds, not to mention 2 times the porting and polishing cost on the cylinders. Now Ive done everything the banshee owner has done to make mine faster than his still, and spent half as much. Its simple economics 2 cylinders equalling 150cc less in size trying to hang with a zilla, equals 2 times the cost to get it there and 2 times the cost to keep it there! You decide.

Mine is a 1988 with the original engine in it. It has never been apart. Just has aftermarket pipie and silencer and delta v force reeds.I ride it at least 3 times a month year round here in sunny Florida. Its amazing howlong something will last if you take care of it huh. In fact I challenge you to find a banshee, stock or not, that is 12 years old that has never been apart.

I don't think I would brag about not putting in a new top end in for 12 years. How often do you change the oil? Every four years? How about the air filter?
Seriously, there is an exception to every rule, and in this case the rule is that the 500's are not very reliable. If you are the exception, great. I don't believe that you have never put in a top end though. You also might want to check your powerband. I have a new one if you want it.

This shows your ignorance about the 2 stroke motor. Powerband huh. I guess your one of those guys who thinks that chrome footpegs adds horsepower to your banshee. How many top ends have you put in yours? I would wager at least 3, in the last 4 years times two because remember, a banshee needs twice the cylinders and still cant do the job.

To answer your question, I replace the piston at the beginning of each season and then replace the rings usually about 3/4 of the way through the season as determined by a compression check. The compression check is not the most accurate way of determining the condition, but it is good enough for me. I also measure the cylinders for taper, out of round and wear, and bore as required. As for the powerband, I replace it every time somebody doesn't realize that it is a joke, or once for every broken down quadzilla that I see.

Well I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this subject and let him make up his own mind. Dont get me wrong I love the banshee. I have 2 of them, I also have 2 other zillas, a tecate 4, and a honda 250r. I just sold my quadracer so I think they are all great bikes for different reasons. Talk to ya later.
