Default Ricochet Skidplate question

Anyone have the Ricochet skid plates, and can you tell me if they have any kind of clear coat on them or if they are just plain aluminum?
I just ordered mine and plan on powdercoating them black to match the undercarriage (and shortly my wheels as well) a little better if there's no coating on them.
Thanks.

I don't remember seeing any clear coat. Why would you powdercoat when they're just going to get beat up anyway?

Default Ricochet Skidplate question

Pads, I'm doing it mostly for looks (not real into the shiny look), plus I don't want bare metal rubbing on my frame where I'll bolt them on. I already have the equipment to coat them, so it'll only cost me a couple bucks worth of powder, so if I have to redo them it's no big deal. Rolsmojave3, no pics yet. I just ordered the skids so it'll be a week or two before I'm done.

Hey Lizard

instead of powdercoating, which will still rub against the frame, use a good thick bead of silicone sealant between the skid and the frame. It will keep the skid from moving around on the frame, and will eliminate any squeaking/rattling/rubbing noise. I did it to my 1995 Fourtrax when I bought it new, and have never had so much as a squeak from my skidplate (and I have been to hell and back twice on that thing)

Thanks TX, wish I'd have seen this before I installed them yesterday, I would have added the silicone. If I get over being lazy, maybe I'll undo them.....

Did you ever powdercoat them. Like you, I'm not into the shiny aluminum. Black would look better on my Blue Grizzly 660 and would match the racks and Warn Bumper with winch and light kit I'm getting ready to order. If you have pics, please post them!

Sooner, sorry but my digital camera is dead. It does look good though, I recommend it. I haven't done serious riding since then, but the brush I've ridden through hasn't hurt it yet.
