Default KQ 700 Cold Starting in MN!!

My poor quad gets all sorts of temps. Tonight it was 15 below zero...I turned the key, let it sit till it quit making noises..statred it up, it turned three times...statred up...and ran fine. -15 is tough to get anything to start, but the quad has started fine thus far!

Mine starts up perfectly right away. And it has been dang cold lately. Just gotta have the choke on for a couple minutes after that, which is no biggie at all.

Started it again today at -15 and it took forever to even fire, and when it did it just about blew my ear off!A loud backfire type sound! So I took the recoil and gave it a couple tugs and I could hear the fuel pump pressurizing, then I hit the starter button and it fired a couple times, back to the recoil a couple more tugs, then the starter again and it fired up finally!Ran great from there but what the %^#$%&!!A FI 2005 four wheeler that starts that bad!Gimme a break!!

I would be quite dissapointed in that EFI system as well I flip my choke on on both mine for a min let it warm up and it works flawlessly with that having been said they fire and run in a fraction of a second.

Something is WRONG and you need to get your problem warrentied.I'd bring it into the dealership and have them figure it out.

Carbs? HAHA!! I guess you haven't heard anything about the KQ or read anything in this thread either. The KQ is fuel injected (read: no carbs).

JT, it sounds like you are having some kind of problem with fuel delivery or metering. I have no clue what would be wrong, but there may be a sensor that has come loose somewhere, too. It wouldn't hurt to check. Also, pull the plug out and crank it a few times to make sure that it is getting spark from the time you hit the button. Just keep it away from the spark plug hole while you crank it unless you want to have a fireball blow up in your face.

JT, something is definitely wrong with your FI system. I've left my KQ down at the beach on the ice over night in -10 and it fires up in only a couple of seconds the next morning. I do have to let it warm up for a minute or so or I'll hear some strange sounds from the transmission as I switch in and out of front lock and high/low to pull the ice house. It's been virtually flawless in the cold weather we've been having lately and that's exactly why I purchased an EFI quad!
