Default z400 problems in the cold

I have been running my Z in the snow and it is about 20 degrees out usually. any time i go past 3rd gear it starts cutting out. I am thinking about changing the oil and getting something for cold weather. Anybody have any input that may be helpful in diagnosing the problem? Thanks.

Changing the oil can't hurt, but it won't help your problem either. what were you planning on getting for cold weather? I would look into jetting up.

And make sure you are letting it warm up completely before haulin azz. But like they said, check the plug, cause you may need a jet up.

Could anyone give me a quick jetting lesson? the oil i am gonna switch too is in the owners manual which i dont have on hand but it says what too use for dif temps. I think I might have been hauling *** to sudden and it was just getting cold though. thanks for the tips though. I will try to get to the suzuki store this week, and pick up whatever i need.

I think I will just leave the jetting to a mechanic instead, I am too confused from the link you gave me but thanks anyway. It almost sounds like i may be running too lean though. But....once I warm the bike up it seems to run ok.
