Default Jetting 2004 Z400 w/ UNI Filter, Yoshimura Exhaust, & EHS Airbox Cover...

Hey all,

I have a 2004 Z400.

I am putting on the Noss Machine Billet Airfilter adapter, w/ UNI filter. EHS Airbox Lid w/outerwares cover. and Team Suzuki Yoshimura Full system pipe.

I have read before that it is a waste of money to buy a jet kit because you will only need 1 needle.. I don't plan to ever do any more mods to the engine.

What jet would i need to purchase, and where would i purchase it? I'd hate to spend $50 on a jet kit if i could just spend a few $$'s to get the 1 jet i need..

Thanks,

-ThaChad

The needle in the Z400 is non-adjustable. You will need to find an adjustable needle, and then get a 150-160 main jet. I don't know your elevation, but I am at just over 500 feet above sea level. My needle is on the bottom setting, and I am running a 160 main jet.

However my air box lid is removed completely, so you may not need that much fuel. Start with a 150 jet, needle at the third slot, and see how it runs.

I was runing a 160 mikuni (#'s are not the same as dynojet) main jet when I had a pipe, air filter, and no lid. The needle was stock along with the pilot jet. Elevation is about 600ft.

Your right the dynojet kit is a waste of money. You can get a needle from alba i think around $15 and jets for under $5 each. I would also rec a 150-160 mainjet.

You may be better off to go ahead and buy a complete jet kit. When I put my HMF pipe on my Z400, I had to try a few different jets till I got the right one. Plus its nice to always have them for when youll need to re-jet in the winter time.

My dynojet kit might be worth having if the jets went high enough. The largest one in the kit was a dj150, this is equal to around a 142 mikuni. To small to be runing without the lid. Yes it has about 20 other jets, but I will never use those either. You will be able to buy a lot of individual jets that will be around the size you will need for the price of a dynojet kit.

I have the 04 Z400, also with a full yoshimura exhaust, out of New Hampshire i have a 175 main jet, and the Snorkle off..and the needle is on the 3rd ring...its deff worth getting the full jet kit, i bought the FMF Jet kit, not only do you get all the jets you'll ever need and the needle, they pack plenty of stickers to Make your quad look like a billboard
