lt500 not starting
#1
my friend bought the quadzilla i was talking about on an earlier forum and it has real trouble starting,we think the oil/fuel mix is off but cant tell. i was wondering what the ratio is a it so we this gas is all burned we can get the right mix through it,also what is a good oil to use, and should we try to find out what oil was in there already and continue to use it or does it matter if you switch oils.....thanks

you can change oil mixes any time.i believe most of us are running a good synthetic 2stroke oil.i mix mine at 32:1.you could try emptying out the tank and start with some fresh fuel mix,if you still are experiencing hard starting you may have carberation issues.you may wanna check the reeds also.

they are all ways hard to start. suzuki put in a built in theft system that only the owner knows how to start. it will take some time but he will figure it out. or if it has a stock carb get rid of it they are junk. mostly the 87 models.its good exercise thow.

Ok well my setup i've had no problems running Spectro Synthetic blend. it comes in a purple container. as for the ratio, I run 36:1 with no problems at all. It may be a carberation problem thats keeping it from starting. If it is running rich I would change your plug because a zilla thats running rich loves to foul plugs. wheni first got mine running it fouled like a plug or two a day. Ive tried cleaning them with everything under the sun and moon but it seems nothing works until you put the new plug in and she starts right up. After i got it jetted right it ran the whole summer on one plug. It has been sitting since september until 4 days ago it wouldnt start i popped a new plug in and she fired right up.

In my 89 LT500R I run Amsoil at 40:1. If you use a synthetic oil make sure your fuel tank is empty. That way you don't mix conventional oil, if it was used, with synthetic oil.

I ran Golden Spectro at 52:1 in my R for 6 months on one plug and when I tore down my motor, there was still excess oil in the bottom of the cases. Whatever oil you choose, mix it at what the bottle recommends.

JNJeff hit the nail on the head, there is a technique to getting them fired up.
lots of stuff on this topic, just search. Old info is still good info.
I run Ams Dominator at 50:1 highest octain I can find.
Once you figure out how to "PRIME" the engine start up will be no problem.
