Default Making a skidplate from scratch for my LT...need some ideas...

ok i can get 1/4'' aluminum from a guy i know pretty cheap...i told him to get me a 3 x 1 piece so i could make a skidplate. I was just wondering how i should mount it to my frame. My nerfs mount with U bolts, but that is a last resort, especially after my frame is going to be all pretty. Maybe if i find a better way to mount the skid plate i can mount the nerfs that way too so it doesnt scratch my frame up...ANY IDEAS?? How do the aftermarket skids and nerfs mount up?? Thanks

how about just driling holes through the skidplate and into the bottom of the frame, tap the holes in the frame bolt the skid in place?

JMO I would avoid drilling an '86 frame. Its already 20 years old. I just had a pretty expensive mid frame gasset job down and I'm pretty much cured of drilling anything on my LT. I mounted a skidplate on a 250r last night and it had little clamps that tighted down with bolts facing down. Not like U clamp, more like "r" looking deals.

If you managed to make one, please let me know. I'm very inrested.

that is an idea...but you also have to think about the heads of the bolts catching on something and ripping them out...i know it doesnt sound like it can happen, but im gonna be riding mx tracks and trails, and i dont want that to happen...Maybe if they were counter-sunk...hmmm...i dont understand what your sayin about the "r" bolts, 2StrokeSmoke...can you find some pictures?

The one on my z250 mounts with these C shaped brackets, and you put the skidplate on the bottom of the frame, and on the top side put that c-bracket and its tapped for holes, the skid has holes, and you just put the bracket so the two flat parts touch the skid, and screw it in.
Not sure if you understand what I mean its kind of hard to explain but it looks good and no holes.
