Default Vinson 10 hour service?

When we purchased our 2 vinsons the service department guy told us to make sure to bring them back after the 10hr breakin for the 10hr service, he said they need to adjust the valves and change all the fluids(coolant, oil, diff, etc.) He said it will run just under $300. I dont exactly have $300 to put into my atv right now so how important is it to have all this done. Im sure I can change the oil and diff fluid but Im not sure about the valve adjustment. He also said It has to be done at 10 hours and no later because the oil will have "metal fragments" I am new to atv's but not new to trucks and I was thinking that any "metal fragments" at all are bad ESPECIALLY at break-in(This is why Im thinking of changing the oil now, 5.5hrs on machine). Please tell me what you think I should do.

On a new bike, I always change my engine oil, filter, and dif fluid at 1 hr. (to late for you already!), then again at 10 hrs. I do a valve adjustment at about 20 hrs. Stick with a petrolium based oil for about the first 20 hrs., then switch to a good API SG/JASO MA Ester Synthetic like Maxima Extra.

If checking your valve clearance scares you then here's a link that might help ease that fear. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/tech/ValveAdjust/

That's funny, my dealer said no service was needed until 100 miles?!?!?!
It also states nothing about a 10 hour service in the manual.

Oder a service manual from your dealer and do all of the work yourself. The manual walks you though the process.

or you can be like me, blow the whole thing up at about 40 hours...spend lots of money on a cam and big bore..and do the valves while you have the whole thing apart...

Well I hope to avoid her route as well. Although a big bore sounds interesting, I hoping that can wait until 2007.
Could someone please clarify where it says to do a 10 hour service? It's not in the manual. Called three dealers, one being my stea err dealer, and everyone said do it at 100 miles. I'm not doubting the benefits of doing a 10 hour service as I'll probably do mine, I'm just wanting some clarification. Thanx
