Default My first post here: What is a decent price for an 05 Z400? Can I talk them down any?

I am looking to buying either a Z400 or KFX400 here in a couple of months. I am not particular about the color and will buy whatever I can get a cheaper price for. I have an advantage though, I live in El Paso, Texas which is FAR FAR West Texas, in the tip of Texas. SO, that means that I have the option to drive 20 minutes to Las Cruces, NM and get a quad their with lower taxes or some out of state taxes(something like that, don't know how it works.) I also can go to Alamagordo, NM or Deming, NM which are only a couple hours away. So what is a good price that I should be able to get on the Z400 or the KFX400 after it is all said and done?

On a sidenote: My friend bought a 2004 Polaris Predator is Las Cruces and claims that since it is out of state it will be tax free..... He bought his predator brand new out the door at $5,500. If that is the case I might just go with a predator if I can get that deal. Anybody know how it works with out of state purchases.

Well it all depends on TX law. Does TX require you to register the bike? If so, then it doesn't matter if you buy it in TX, NM, OK, or BFE, you'll still have to pay TX registration and taxes no matter where you buy the bike, but that's only if TX requires you to register the bike. As far as price you should be able to get 3-700 of the MSRP, it all varies per dealer and how your buying the bike. If at all possible pay for it in cash, or get the financing taken care of and in your bank before you goto the dealer. When your talking straight cash or buying the bike straight up w/ a check you get alot more bargaining power.

Unfortunately I didn't know this until after I bought my bike or I could have gotten more than $200 off retail (try 5,800 vs 6,300).

Well, since I am impatient I was looking into financing it when they have the promotions going on. I am planning to put $2,000-$3000 down cash and finance the rest. Although I do plan to finish of paying the loan within a year even though I might finance it for 36months.

I financed mine, and the company that financed it said anything over $5000.00 they needed to put a lein on it. Meaning that taxes and registration would have to be paid at the time of sale. But since I only financed $4800 through them I got the title free and clear and a stay on the taxes until I actually go register w/ the state. Hopefully you be as lucky.

Welcome to the forum

I have a friend who's been looking for a couple of months now for the "best" price on a '05 Z400. So, far, best we've found in the west is $5600 otd, for a yellow one out of L.A. Looked out of state. Not worth it. And, what is being asked for a '03-04 Z400 is outrageous for the most part. Mind as well buy a '05 with the upgrades

Talked to an out of state dealer today in Las Cruces, NM (20 minute drive from El Paso, TX) and it will be TAX FREE. He said that I am looking at "A price well under $6000. out the door." So I guess I am going to have to go in to talk some serious buisness and get some good price comparisons to put up.
