Newbie LT250R Questions
K well first off i just finished searching 14 pages of LT250r stuff and read alot about them, but i still have questions about the one im going to look at next time i got back home. K I am currently looking at a 87 Lt250R, or so im told. One of my questions is, he said it had a straight seat on it, but i've read that a 87 had the T-seat, is this true? Also he said it has a aftermarket exhaust and reeds, but is otherwise still in stock condition with new rear tires. So im ptretty much just looking for questions to ask him , or things to look for to make sure as to what year it is. Like if there is only a certain year that came with a specific visible option what is it? i know that the 87-92 were powervalved and have the site glass on the side of the engine, but is there anything else that would help me figure out the year?

well,i can help you out. If it has a site glass and exhaust valve its 87-up,if it doesnt its an 85 or 86. 87 and up generaly had a grey engine,87 and up had a blue one(some have been stripped though). 85 and 86 had a round bearing carrier for the swingarm, and the 87 up had an enclosed square one. 85 and 86 were 5 speeds,87 up were 6 speeds. 85 and 86 have straight seats,87 up had the t-seat.
OK,NOW HOW TO TELL DIFERENCE BETWEEN 87 AND UP. the quickest giveaway is the reed cage where it bolts to the cylinder. the 87 uses "5" bolts to hold the reed cage in,one on top,two on the sides, and two on the bottom. 87-92 used 6 bolts, 2 on top,two on sides, two on bottom. if the reed cage has 5 bolts its an 87. if it has 6 bolts its an 88-up. if it has 6 bolts for the reed cage and has the wierd "pivot" rear suspension where an arm actually pushes down on the shock it is an 88-90. If it has a 6 bolt reed cage, and has a regular dirt bike style rear shock, its a 91-92. I would try to stay away from the 87 model. even though it was the fastest, its a unique year and the hardest to find parts for and wiseco is actually discontinuing the piston for it. i would definitely go for it if it was an 88-92. i would buy an 85 or 86 too but i would be very careful, because of thier age and they are prone to cracking just about everywhere

So LT's are dune worthy quads? I figured it would rip quite nicely, but i was just wondering. Do you need to mod them much to make them a duner? I would plan on goin to silver lake if i could get a chance, never been but i heard its pretty fun. But ya i may call my cousin and see if he can take some pics of it for me so i can post them on here so you guys could help me out with this year identification thing.
