Default New guy with some LT250R Questions..

hey guys, Just picked up a 89 LT250R for a "good deal" Here's the sitch....

Was looking for a Lt250/500R, found this one, run good, would rev to high when warm...I assumed crank seal...paid $800 cdn for it, came with ITP hole shots(2 sets), and Mud lites, with shiny aluminum rims on the front. FMF ceramic coated pipe, twist grip, supposed to be ported(wasn't)...took it apart...Crank seal was indeed bad. so was the magneto. and crank bearings. and output shaft bearing and seal, and the shifter was bent..So, I buy a 88, for parts. (siezed rod to crank) And go get the Manual from Suzuki, says "ALL" LT250R's..apparantly not! Now, for my questions.

What year did they go 5-bolt? How hard is it to Re-convert? I was told my quad had an older swing arm in it, but didn't think much of it when ordered matching rims for the rear, they showed up, 5 bolt.......The manual has 4 bolts quads in it...my parts 88 is 4.

What year was the exhuast valve thing put in? both the 88+89 have it, but the book does not. What does it do, how do I set it? Does it just restrict exhuast for more torque?

What is there I can do to get SAFE reliable performance out of this machine? I can't find a crank anywhere, They have been discontinued, and I really don't wanna pile this motor up, but I want it to rip...Tall order, I know.

Thanks guys! I'd been looking for a baord like this one, I'm kinda a net Junkie, i have a board for each toy I own now..

as to the axle 87 and up have 5 bolt however 85 to early 88 have the 26 spline axle and hubs. they must have took 85 or 86 hubs and putit on your 88. or you say you have an older swing arm round carrier ? if so you might have an 85/86 whole rear setup. as for crank theres one on ebay brand new . also on ebay is set of 5 lug 87 26 spline hubs. gopod luck and welcome to the board. oph to adjust power valve pull the two philups screws on opposite side of jug from site glass. then pull that adjustment cap . aline the cap and spring and turn it counter clock wise 360 degrees. now its back at stock setting reinsert screws. good luck also if you type key words in search it will give ya lots of fast answers here in forum.

Most good engine shops can rebuild your crank (replace rod & bearing, weld & true) for $150-200.

I have a set of hubs that would work great on your LT I was gonna use them on mine but ended up with a different axle and new hubs so I don't need them. They are for the honda bolt pattern 4/110. They are off from a new z400. Will bolt right up. email or pm me for more info.

And the 85-86 had 24 spline axles and hubs and the 87-92 or whenever they stopped making them had the 26 spline axle and hubs.
