Default LT 250 R Cold starting problem

A little info first ; 88 lt 250 r , ftz motor , 41.5 ftz carb , ftz pipe and stock ing. The problem is when you first try to start it you will kick yourself blue in the face and then pull start it. Upon firing you can tell its like it was flooded but I never gave it gas while trying to start it. Once it clears out , it runs fine and can be easily restarted while still warm. I have no clue. Please help guys !!! Thanks !! Tim

Check to see if the plugs is wet when you're kicking it over, if so, it's too rich. I would also check the compression and spark. Was it starting fine before or did you buy it like this?

I agree with sam.

Pilot jet may be too rich or you may have compression issue

Hey sam , good spark and compression. Plug is wet on the cold start. Check the main jet ? Carb was jeted by ftz and I know the weather is much different up there. If main is to big , what would you suggest being a fellow Florida boy. Thanks ,Tim

The main will not affect your starting but your pilot will. What year is the racer? What clip position is the slide set at? Also, where are located at and what is your elevation? You may have mentioned it???

Have you checked to see if your choke is working properly?
