Default shock help..

I would find a used bike wrecking yard. I know new aftermarket shocks are cheaper than new stock ones
I know of a place here in phoenix that has everything you would want for a 250r and then some
but that doesnt help you down south. try calling local bike repair shops. I had to do the same thing for my bosses 88 250r
good luck

400ex front shocks are supposed to work. The bottom end Works shocks cost about $340 or so.
