Default LT250r rear suspension

Hey guys I dont know wuts wrong with my rear suspension: It is soo soft that i will jump it maybe 5 ft in the air and bottom out, and when i try to add air to the rear cylinder (has air chuck on it!) it doesnt hold any pressure, but i dont hear air coming out of the pressurized cylinder. Is my rear suspension shot, because the recoil is still good and i have the spring torqued down to about half an inch from the bottom of the threads.....do i need to fully replace the suspention or just buy like the cylinder or something?!?! any tips are GREATLY appreciated, becuae i found this new track and want to go riding again very soon, thx.

Oooohhhhhh boy,

That air chuck is not for air. Did your problems start after added the air? You probably blew out the seal in the shock??? Sounds like its time for a rebuild.

i believe the air chuck is for nitrogen or some other gas like that.

those shocks are nitrogen gas, not air, sounds like you blew it up.. like emmerth said..

No because the rebound is okay on it...i just tightened the spring down a bit and seems to be working fine..i didnt blow the seal.. i talked to my dad about it and some other guys and they said as long as the rebound is okay..which it is..and i didnt try putting too much air in it today and didnt try to pressure it up too much.....but like i said i tightened down the spring to give me the stiffness i wanted and took it for a ride and rode GREAT...thanx for all the help though

you don't use air because it can have water in it which could contaminate it, and it would get hotter faster, and would change pressure. nitrogen is used because there is no water and doesn't change pressure with heat.

if you put air in it you couldn't have blown it because a compressor can't make enough pressure too. rear shocks are presurized at around 170 psi. an air compressor only makes about 135.

you should at least get the oil changed and have the shock recharged. will make a big differance.

for an oil change and recharge some where around $60. depends where you go. it will be easier if someone else did it. you have to take the shock almost all apart to do it right. and make sure they put in new seals.

The going price for a tear down, new seals and recharge is running around $100 ($60 + Parts + tax). Don't be suprised if they tear it apart and you need more replaced than just the seals. Been there many times.
