Hey, my starter is stuck on my '04 Z400. When you turn the key on the starter goes and goes even after machine starts. The only way to stop it is turn the key off. Is thier a starter relay that could be stuck? I need to take apart the starter button to make shure nothing wrong thier but i think it in the starter system some where. Anybody heard of this problem? I called the dealer and they never heard of this on this bike.

Anybody have info on the starter system components?

 

theres a wire that goes into your little thing that holds your starter button..you can try unhooking that..maybe it will work..I know if you unhook it your starter don't work.

 

Most likely the switch. check that before you take the starter off.

Since it stops when you turn your key off, I would say it is in your starter button.

Well I'm still having this problem, and it sucks. its not in the switch? the switch has a clutch cancel on it- meaning you have to pull the clutch in for the starter switch to work, and I've replaced the starter relay. any other suggestion? this also happens going down the trail while the engine is running

 

Maybe your solenoid is hanging up on the flywheel.
The switch would be easy to test, when you fire it up unplug the switch and if it keeps doing it then you know it's not that. Easiest way would be to use a voltage meter.
