Default runs good with the choke on

I'm working on a friends 230 quadsport. Well it had some engine work in the past (when they were popular for racing), cams and p/p. The original owner also put a Kehin round slide carb on it. Well when my buddy bought it, it ran awesome. It has sat over the winter and now we have issues.

It runs good with the choke on. Turn it off and it cuts out and misses big time. The first thing I did was pull apart the carb and cleaned it out completely, and checked all of the jets for debris. Everything looked good. Installed a new spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Same results.

Now I'm not to familiar with this carb so I have a question. When you put the choke on, will the butterflies in the carb be opened or closed? When the quad is idling, the butterflies "flutter".

Any ideas?

It should be like all other carbs where the choke closes the butterflies. I just picked up a lt 230 but I do not have a manual for it yet.

Youre on the right track, the idle circuit is too lean. Is there an intake leak, missing o ring or loose mounting bolts? Air lid off, or filter off?
When you checked the pilot jet, did you see light coming thru the hole, or run a wire thru it? Thats the jet which control the idle mixture, and its a mighty small hole, and it plugs easily. And if its plugged, itll give the symptoms the quad has.
