kq700 FI codes
#1
does anyone know what the codes are that the FI light can flash? mine came on solid before and ran fine. a guy that we rode with this weekend had his flashing at him and it wouldn't start.

i just hope that mine doesn't leave me sitting. we're going to west virginia in a few weeks for a big ride. my luck it will mess up there and leave me in the trails. did they say what caused it to happen? wonder if the ECM's are getting hot under the seat?

Okay I will try to explain this for you.. The FI light flashing does not indicate a number code like you think. If the light flashes that means the ignition signal is stopped, when the crankshaft position sensor signal, tip-over sensor signal, ignition signal, injector signal, fuel pump relay signal,or ignition switch signal is not sent to the ECM. In this case the "FI" is indicated on the LCD panel.
the FI light also represents the coolant temp. If it continues to come on maybe your radiator is plugged up like mine. Once it cools down you can turn the key off and on and it should start.
Now to get the codes out of the ECM you need a special tool #09930-82720 : mode select switch
with this connected you can read the codes in the ECM. It is very important not to disconnect the harness from the ECM or you will clear the codes in memory. the codes show up on your LCD in place of the odometer.
the codes are as follows:
C00 NONE
C12 CRANK POSITION SENSOR
C13 INTAKE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR
C14 THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
C15 ENGINE COOLANT TEMP. SENSOR
C20 RELAY (DIFF LOCK RELAY)
C21 INTAKE AIR TEMP. SENSOR
C23 TIP OVER SENSOR
C24 IGNITION SIGNAL (IGNITION COIL)
C32 INJECTOR SIGNAL
C40 IDLE SPEED VALVE
C41 FUEL PUMP CONTROL SYSTEM
you do need the proper tools to check this but they should be available thru your dealer.
Hope this helps, i would check your radiator for sure though it is most likely why the light comes on. it happened to me three times now.

thanks alot quadnut. hopefully it was just getting warm on me then. after i would let it set for a few the light would go out but come on again later on down the trail. when i washed it off yesterday there was quite a bit of mud in the fins. if the temperature gets to hot will the ecm shut the engine down until it cools off? how much does the tool cost that you are talking about?

I am not sure how much the tool is I have not purchased it yet. you will have to check with your dealer.
The ecm will shut the bike down if it gets to warm, just before it does the red light will be flashing along with a icon on the lcd by the fuel gauge. after the bike shuts down the odometer will show check in the display. Keep the key on so the fan can cool the radiator and once it is cool you turn the key off and wait about 5 sec. and turn it on and it should start. after this happens the code will be stored in the ecm.
They recommend using air to clean the radiator. I wash mine with the hose but you have to run it for a long time. Just make sure to check it with a light from the fan side.
Happy trails!!!

mine never shut down on me. the 2 FI lights came on and it ran ok. i shut it off for a few and when i would start it they wasn't on. then they would come on about 5 minutes later. it did this about 3 times. they never did flash.
