Yea, I agree with the guys that said it's a personal issue...I know for a FACT it's not a saftey issue...because say for instance you hit a rock or something sudden and you twist the throttle really hard...well think of that same scenario and put a thumb on it...I personally used to do this all the time pressing the thumb to hard when I hit all-of-a-sudden things...but that was when I was a young boy now I can keep it under control...as for like turning and stuff like some people mentioned, I do think twist would help more in that situation because you have more of your body concentrated on turning and less on like position of your thumb and how much you can turn at that angle. But again like the other guys said It's definately a personal issue. I personally, would go with both, but I have a thumb so I feel no need to change it.

I like the comment earlier "I've been riding ATVs for 25 years..."

That's a laugh. What ATV did you own in 1980? A Honda ATC110? With a twist throttle?

I don't even think the term ATV was in the lexicon then.

I know, this is a pretty 'jerk' reply, but come on, you don't have to exaggerate THAT much.

Not an exaggeration at all and you are right, in 1980 the term was ATC as in ATC 90 and yes we did put twist throttles on all of them. We also took them out to all the way to 205cc on one occasion and ran them on straight Alchohol. All we did was double the size of the main jet and they screamed on alchohol. The only other alternative we had at the time ATV wise was sticking a Yamaha RD 350 (a banshee engines grandpa) engine in a custom frame. So yeah it was a pretty "jerk" reply since you have no clue.

Yea I agree with you ElectricShift, it does take some gettin' used to, I've never riden an ATV with a twist but I've riden dozens of other things and It took my some time to get it down since I was used to thumb pressing haha.

I put a twist on my 85 LT230 because it is not auto or semi clutch and I like it. I've kept my '05 250EX stock with the thumb and it's nice too, just depends on what style you like. I agree that you get more grip with twist and you "can" overgrip on a jump but I do find that my hand cramps up with the thumb when I ride hard vs. the twist.

It's not a major investment ($25-$40) for a twist. Try it and if you don't like it, put your thumb back on and ebay the twist.

I've been riding atvs for 40 years and I like the old fashioned gas pedal under the right foot. So when I see one of those 'jerks', I floor it.

Actually we've been riding atv's for 100's of years. They called them horses back then.

Twist is on order for my LTZ250 and my boys LT80 and I will report back when fitted and tested.
