King Quad 4WD
#1
I am thinking of getting a King Quad and had a question about the 4WD. I read in an article on this site that the differential locker can only be engaged when the KQ is in Low gear. Is this true? What happens if the lever is switched on when in High (does it not lock)? If it has to be in Low, what is the maximum speed? I currently own a Polaris SP400 and they recommend not going above 7 MPH in Low. There are situations where I would want the front differential locked at higher speeds.
Also, I have read a few concerns on ripped CV boots and bent tie-rods. I know these happen with any ATV but it just seemed that there is a little less front end protection than my Polaris. Any problems in this area? I am aware of the reverse/ECM problems, but hope they are fixed.
The KQ looks like a great bike and can get a pretty good deal on one. My main concern is the diff locker. Thanks for any help.

You can diff lock it in high or low. The rev limiter kicks in around 25 mph in low gear, and around 15 mph in high. I know those seem like they should be reversed but there not. You can hit the override button in diff lock and then you can go as fast as you want.
Ive been reading about alot of bent tie rods, I have yet to bend one myself. I have some aftermarket protection for the cv's so no problem there either.

Thanks for all the input.
Honestly after reading some more on the KQ, I may wait until the 2006 models come out. I have read alot where the tie rods are easily bent, and the reverse issue still concerns me until more people provide some feedback on the fix. I have the opportunity to go to a guys farm and ride the KQ, Kawasaki BF750 and Grizzly 660. Maybe after riding the KQ I'll never look back (the price sure is appealing).
Fred: I did consider the Polaris 700 since I have been very happy with my 400. A friend has the 600 and there are two things that concern me on that. The very noticable driveline clunk and the lack of a backup pull-start. Granted, he has never needed the pull-start in all the miles we've ridden together, but when the time comes, it would be nice to have.
Still have to sell one of my 400's before I can do anything, so I will keep up on the feedback.
