Default Painting the plastic

I have an LT80 and would like to put a new tank on it but not willing to spend $200 for one. Can these be painted with any success or will it look like dog squeeze? Anybody have a source for a new one, and fenders? Thanks

I painted all the plastic on my 86 cr125 it looks brand new, bad news is the tank (if it is plastic) will not hold the paint. It has something to do with the gas chemicals in the tank. Try Krylon Fusion ( @ Wal-Mart ) it is a plastic paint it works great on everything except the tank. Good luck

So it sounds like it won't hold up on the tank, any hook ups for a tank? Help? Would a PPG with a flex additive hold? Thanks

if you have the right paint and chemicals to get it to bond to the plastics it can be done
as for the fuel tank you might get it to stick if the tank is prepared with the right chemicals
good luck

The paint won't last on the tank, prepping will make it last longer but still will bubble up and peel. Try making custom graphics or buy new factory tank graphics. Most people that are successful in painting plastic have a fuel tank cover that is not actually the tank. As far as store bought rattle can goes, the krylon fusion is good, but go to a auto paint store and have them mix you up some custom color that is for flexable plastic. It will turn out awesome.

Krylon Fusion is indistructable after it cures. After all, it is MADE for plastic. You have to put on like 30 thin coats for it not to run and look good, but $5 a can i WAY cheaper than $500 for new plastics. And when your done, it looks just like the $500 set up. Another plus? They have something like 30 colors, even a chameleon.

Even if you go with the fusion or automotive finish it still will eventually bubble up and or peel on the gas tank.
