I would much rather have the washer on there, but the worst it will probably do is drip.

You might try leaving the fill plug in and trying to pull the plug getting the washer on and putting it back on real fast. The vacuum won't let the oil come out very fast. I have done this on electric water heaters many times (changing the element). Or depending on how expensive your oil is just replace it or catch and replace. I would not run it without the gasket, as the oil gets hot it will thin out and will probably start leaking and you don't want that.

If it isn't leaking just keep the washer for next change and ride on! You will have to be Superman fast to pull the plug, intall the washer and put the plug back in. LOL In other words it will not work.

Washer? Or O-Ring?

I don't recall seeing a washer on mine but maybe there was.

If you moved it out all the way but kept pressure on it, this will allow you to pull the plug fast slide the ring on and stick it back in. I bet I could do it without loosing 3 oz. Telling someone else to go ride with a possible oil leak is easy if its not your motor that’s going to lock up. In my opinion you always error on the safe side. Even if you catch it before you blow the damn thing up it might end your ride early. Not worth it to me. But hey, I take care of my equipment and value my ride time.
