Hey does removing the Airbox lid make that much of a difference? Is it worth the extra risk for the performance gains?

No! I would not do it! The only thing I might do is insert the circle air box sreens on the top lid.

I was thinking about doing it. I am going with the screen though where the lid used to be. I don't go through mud that often but I do hit the sand!! Dunes are a guys best friend!!

I am going with that one! I can't wait to get it. My bike is going on the dyno next monday before and after I get the exhaust and jetting done and then I am going to test the lid on and then off to see what gains I can get.. I will let everyone know!

i ditched my lid and i had to go up from a 145 to a 160!!!! and hellz ya i can feel the difference! just wash your filter after every riding day and you will be fine! If your lazy and like to wash your airfilter once a year, or when your quad stops running because its clogged, then no dont take it off! and no water will get it unless you get water up to your SEAT!!! and if a splash gets in the box, its not going to get sucked up into the engine, the airfilter oil blocks water from getting through, and most of the water will go right out the bottem of the box..... its not dangerous at all!

Yeah but the sand is horrible. I have to bing an extra filter with me because they get so dirty so fast with the lid off. Soooo I am going to get that outwears lid...

I run without a lid and never had a problem with it except for water
I run with outerwears on my filter. and besides you cant stop everything
from getting into the air box
