Default what are some good mods. for the Z

I am new to Suzukis. I just recently purchased a 2003 z400. The bike is totally stock and i was thinking about putting a 440 kit on this bike. Who makes a good kit for reasonable price? Also i was thinking about a Yoshi or LRD full exhaust system. What would you all recommend. I will be using this back mainly for trail riding maybe some MX. I am just wanting to pep this quad up a lil bit cause all the other people i ride with have YFZs, 450r's, and predators. Any suggestions to modifiying this quad would be appreciated. Thanks....

With my mods I have no trouble running with the 450's.
I hear a lot of good things about the athena 434cc kit.
Cams and carb helped mine the most. You can get hotcams for ~$240 for both.

They have some of the best prices that I have found on cams/engine kits.

I am going with the Athena kit. I will let you know. I like the sound of my LRD pipe! They are just as good of a pipe as any All that has been mentioned is a good route to go. The Yoshi kit is badass if you have the money thats for sure but I like the Athena kit DRZE base gasket and cams and 450R or YFZ 450 carb. I think that is about it. Good times and good luck!!

DRZe base gasket and springs
Exhaust (I like HMF myself)
Intake Kit
Re-Jet
Hotcams

And if you really want to get crazy

440 Kit or larger
FCR or Edlebrock carb
and a Dyna ignition sys

The big bore kit will do you no good without cams, and is normally the last thing you want to upgrade.

CT I think gives the best gains but they are only like very minimal gains over the other 2. I think it all comes down to what you want to pay and the look. That is my .02 cents though. Some people will swear by one or the other. I have the LRD and I gained a little more then 5hp with that pipe and jetting so I am happy with it, oh yeah and it is a used one too! I am a cheap-o

Not sure what the CT costs but the HMF will set you back about $220.00 after shipping for the slip-on or about $400 for a full system. The HMF will give you great gains for not a lot of cash. Depending on what you want to do down the road, most people say that a head pipe will only show you gains with expensive mods like big bore kits, carbs, and hi end rev boxes.

Another thing to think about is, Where do you do your riding? Some of the things I had to think about when choosing a pipe were sound DB levels, and USFS approved. Can't ride in the Oregon dunes with too loud of a pipe, and I can't ride in in my back yard (Capitol Forest) without being USFS approved so the HMF was my choice.
