When my ex was stock ive raced several kfx or Z, I won like one time out of three ,generally the three first speed the ex is a wheel ahead and after fourth speed the z 400 start pulling away slowly till top speed and they have pretty much the same top speed so there the 400 ex is appr. 2 or 3 lentgh away . The riders makes a big difference ; The difference between a winner and a loser ..........

I'm pretty new here but as of now I enjoy reading them when I get some information out of it. Like what mods you have and how its working out vs another quad and what mods they have. The only part I don't like is when someone does not have an objective opinion and just goes with brand loyalty.

yep i saw that .but like you said thier so close that it going to come down to rider.but the z opens up a lot more when you but a full pipe on .the ex 400 will not get the gains the z400 gets with a full pipe

I've heard the same thing about the z responding a lot better to mods. Thanks to information I've gatehered here and many other places over the last 6 months I had decided to buy a z and I hadn't even ridden one yet. I had ridden a couple ex's. Now that I took a ride on one this weekend I know I'm definetely getting one!! Smooth ride and smooth power delivery, I think it's so smooth you don't even expect the power to be there but it is. I've ridden yfz's and obviously there faster but i'd take this one over the yfz let alone the ex. There's a lot more to which quad is faster than just hp numbers. The obvious one would be the rider. Then faster how? On the track? In the woods? In a drag? Then the same rider could be slower on the "faster" quad just 'cause he/she is more comfortable. But my final decision would be the z. I'm going to get the 06 z and install an hmf s/o jet it and high flow air cleaner. And ya know what? My little brother will still smoke me on his 01 ex!! Even if I was on my other brother's yfz.
