Weird SPuttering
#1
OK heres the problem today we were out riding the trail I went through a puddle about 6 inches deep the bike made a weird kinda backfire sound and died. So we pulled it out of the puddle i tried to kick and it wouldn't start so we pushed over to a hill and bump started it came alive but it was making these weird backfiring noises i kept the bike running and it cleared up so i rode it back without a problem. Well later in the day i went through another puddle well this time it didn't die but it sputtered and made the wierd popping noises but cleared up after reving it alittle. Well it happend one more time going out a dry road made the wierd popping noises twice that went away with a quick rev. Now my question is what is causeing all this I need help soon theres alot of water where i ride and i can't go around all the puddles please help asap. the bike is a 86LT250R

Make sure it's very dark out and start the bike, you may see fire jump. I'd go get some dielectric grease, pump the plug boot full of it and go hit a hole see if that clears up the problem. Check plug wires for any cracks, you have to bend the wire in many directions as you look at it as they're very hard to find sometimes. You could also try hitting the bike w/ a waterhose while it's running at night and see if you can visibly see the short happen but it's more than likely water in plug boot.
