Well if it's just a slight lean-type valve tick, and it backfired and died, try adjusting your idle/air screw. This may sound silly, but I once landed really hard on a jump, dead sailored it left front first, but I guess the impact messed up this adjustment and the quad was backfiring, stalling and would not idle.
One little turn and everything was back to normal.

Way too soon for valve adjustments on that engine.
The 400ex engine is known for valve adjustments, seems to be a Honda thing more than anything else.
The DOHC engines require far less frequent valve adjustment. Check the plug to proper burn before you go there.

sounds like timingchain or valves need adjusted
I had to change the chain on my 03 Z.
I would pull the cam chain tensioner and see if its maxed out.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR CAM CHAIN-
Pull the center bolt and spring out of your tensioner (RR side of cyllinder). Then remove the upper and lower bolts, pull the tensioner out and see how many clicks you have left before the center shaft is all the way out. Release the lock on the center shaft, push it back in, reinstall the tensioner and outer bolts. Then install the spring and center bolt.
